Overland Park, Kan. -- The Sunflower Republican Women's Club is now known as the Sunflower Republican Club. On May 15, 2007 the membership voted to adopt new by-laws. (The Sunflower Republican Club is not affiliated with the NFRW.) The Sunflower Republican Club affords both men and women full membership.
“The election of 2008 is approaching and there are important issues that will impact all voters,” said Heidi Harper, President of the Sunflower Republican Club. “It is imperative that we know and understand these issues and the positions of the candidates who have declared for office, and how well they maintain the principles of the Republican Party.”
"As an active Republican involved in managing local campaigns, I believe the Sunflower Republican Club has incredible potential and expanding their membership and scope is an important step in their ability to influence the grassroots. As a proud member of the Sunflower Republican Club, I encourage all Republican men and women to join," said Mike Pirner, Sunflower Republican Club member and Campaign Manager for Senator Julia Lynn and State Rep. Lance Kinzer.
The objectives of the Sunflower Club are:
- To promote an informed public through political education and activity.
- To increase the effectiveness of the Republican Party in the cause of good government through active participation.
- To facilitate and cooperate with the Johnson County Republican Party, the Third District Republican Party and the Kansas Republican Party, or any other effort that embodies Republican principles.
- To foster participation in the Republican Party and to promote Republican principles, objectives, platforms and its candidates in all elections including non-partisan elections.
- To encourage able and qualified Republicans to seek office at all levels of government.
- To support the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America and the Constitution and Laws of the State of Kansas to the end that government shall be truly and in fact "government of the people, by the people and for the people".
