Healthcare: The Next Big Debate
SPEAKER: Dr. Jeff Colyer, a practicing physician in Kansas
Dr. Colyer is a candidate for Representative in the 48th District. The healthcare issues that need to be addressed in the Kansas legislature:
The cost of healthcare in the U.S. in 2005 was $6300 per person. The rates for physicians has remained flat. There will be a shortage of doctors and nurses within 5 years. Technology, AIDS and a longer life expectancy are factors which increase the cost of healthcare. People need to remain in their homes as long as possible and children need to be protected. Healthcare insurance cannot cover all the costs, so Health Savings Accounts may be a viable option for many About 11% of Kansans are uninsured. The cost of their healthcare is paid by the insured. Fewer and fewer doctors are accepting Medicare and Medicaid patients due the massive regulations and unrealistically low payments to doctors.
